Private tutor in Copenhagen, Denmark

Education

I studied under Cambridge Education, and achieved an A* in English Literature and Language. I then moved to London and went on to study a triple-specialization of English, Drama Studies and Multimedia Studies, which I enjoyed but quickly realized that English is indeed my forte, thus decided to re-focus on English Lit/Lang at North London College, achieving an A. A few years later, I "topped up" my grades through the National Extension College online, achieving a 98% grade. - I then decided to do another online course in a Creative Writing specialization with Wesleyan University, achieving 100%.

Experience

I have been privately tutoring at the advanced IB level in Copenhagen in 2023. Prior to that, I was an English teacher at Vidya Aranya school in Goa, India. - Notable awards include an International Certification of Education with Merit from the University of Cambridge, 100% in Mastering Creative Writing Specialization from Wesleyan University, 98% in English Language and Literature at North London College through National Extension, Advanced Level training, Award of Outstanding Academic Achievement from Canadian International, a Nomination for the Global Young Leaders Conference in Beijing, and a certification in Recognition of Highest Average at Canadian International. - I was originally born in London but grew up around the world due to both parents being in International business, I've now lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, for the past 7 years. I speak Danish almost-fluently (though will always tutor strictly in English!) After being considered "gifted" in English Literature and Language throughout my formative years in education, I had always planned to pursue teaching as a full-time career, which I embarked upon immediately after graduating. Unfortunately, I quickly became disillusioned with most mainstream approaches to education - I struggle with the way that schools approach examining children, and the lack of focus that most teachers are able to provide to individual students whilst juggling a large class. I shortly quit, but my love for education and imparting my passion in English remains constant. I have since been tutoring students in Copenhagen (primarily with finishing their final "Gymnasium" English examinations aside my full-time job in I.T., and find it an incredibly fulfilling use of my free time. My passion for the subject translates directly to my enjoyment of sharing it with the students, and I feel I am able to connect with them on their level in such a way that takes the droll requirements of the rubric away from the studies and reroutes the focus onto understanding the genius of the authors and content in ways I don't believe can be grasped in a classroom setting (for example, re-enacting scenes, reading aloud to each other, challenging the student to write why they don't like the work in a way that promotes analytical thinking etc.) and being able to do so in an environment the student is comfortable with (whether this is home or a coffee shop) is a much more enjoyable way to interact with them and the content. By feeling that I'm doing "my part" in helping students and their education without having to conform to standard educational procedures, I feel I'm able to achieve what I had always wanted back when I initially planned to embark on the career. However, working full-time can come with its own challenges, so tutoring part-time seems to be a perfect fit in my life.

Hobbies

Besides having a wonderful social life with Danes and Expatriates alike, naturally, I absolutely love to read, and also dabble in creative writing. I thoroughly enjoy most kinds of art, and will frequently visit museums, exhibitions, and the theater. In my spare time, I participate in voluntary amateur acting and have been performing in English Pantomimes for the CTC, Copenhagen's International amateur theater company. When I can, I love watching movies, and playing a few video games, which my students are typically thrilled to learn! Having grown up an "International Child", I continue to enjoy travel; some of my favourite places include India, New Zealand and Spain, where I lived and worked for a while, learning fluent Spanish. Some of my other hobbies and interests include voluntary work, as I have a big love for animals and have done some assistant veterinary work for shelters in India, and donating to charities, as I have come across many brilliant NPOs during my travels; helping others is one of my biggest joys in life. Other personal interests include experimental home cooking (my mother was a chef in her younger years) and health & fitness.
